MT4 Platform
The DAX Day Traders use the ubiquitous MetaTrader 4 (MT4) platform as our charting tool.
One of the main reasons for its popularity is the ability to develop custom software using the MQL4 language provided by its owner, MetaQuotes. This has led to a large and well supported community of developers, providing a plethora of customized options for traders.
As software engineers this has enabled us to develop our own custom software and tailor it to our specific needs.
We already had a history with the MT4 platform so we were able to leverage its strengths and take advantage of the MT4 features that have been done well and improve on aspects of the user interface that are weak and at times frustrating.
From a design perspective, the charting tool (MT4) is the ‘slave’ in a ‘master-slave’ relationship where the Trade Console (the windows component of the Blackbox Trade Controller) is the ‘master‘.
Our broker of choice LCG, provide a Video Library on how to use the MT4 platform which is a great place to start if you’re new to MT4.
Since we use the MT4 platform in a very unique way, the Trade Controller will setup the required environment for you as described in the Installation section.
The Trade Console provides a standardized interface for all installs of MT4 whether they are from the same or different brokers.
Note: As of the 1st October 2017, MetaQuotes discontinued support for MT4 on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 2003.
